Yes, you do a redesign and hope that it won’t hurt your revenue.

Challenge

To restart the whole brand, not just with the new storefront, but also the backend and processes. I knew that this one would be tough.

The process

Starting with a few workshops with the owners, I have collected valuable insights. What is the business model, how come that the current outdated store sells, who are the personas and most importantly –  what are the main problems the new redesigned store has to solve.

The next step was the client’s analysis of the current store. It consist of these sections :

  • General overview
  • Audience and visitors
  • Traffic sources and site content
  • Analysis (strengths, weaknesses, SEO, website speed)
  • Recommendations

After gathering data I need, the fun part begins. I have created the project plan, and proposed the new processes to the client. With the help of our designer, we started to draw some sketches with good old pencil and paper. This led to creation of low-fidelity wireframes which he transformed to a functional prototype in Adobe Xd. After some testing, we were ready to start with the visual design.

This one was really tough, as the client is super-visual-focused and demanding. With some (6) iterations, we made it, and designed both mobile and desktop versions. And yes, the special focus was aimed at the mobile (responsive) version as the traffic from mobile devices was rising.

The last (but not least) step was to develop a custom template for CMS PrestaShop and to make sure that the template will be flexible enough for the client to make some changes on the site without any coding. This was done by a colleague who was responsible for all the development. My part was to prepare the migration process – from setting up the 301 redirects to the complete onpage optimization. And, of course, the data migration – orders, customers, products had to be exported from Opencart and imported to PrestaShop.

After few months of development, the site was launched with great feedback from customers.
