Yes, you do a redesign and hope that it won’t hurt your revenue.
The next step was the client’s analysis of the current store. It consist of these sections :
After gathering data I need, the fun part begins. I have created the project plan, and proposed the new processes to the client. With the help of our designer, we started to draw some sketches with good old pencil and paper. This led to creation of low-fidelity wireframes which he transformed to a functional prototype in Adobe Xd. After some testing, we were ready to start with the visual design.
This one was really tough, as the client is super-visual-focused and demanding. With some (6) iterations, we made it, and designed both mobile and desktop versions. And yes, the special focus was aimed at the mobile (responsive) version as the traffic from mobile devices was rising.
The last (but not least) step was to develop a custom template for CMS PrestaShop and to make sure that the template will be flexible enough for the client to make some changes on the site without any coding. This was done by a colleague who was responsible for all the development. My part was to prepare the migration process – from setting up the 301 redirects to the complete onpage optimization. And, of course, the data migration – orders, customers, products had to be exported from Opencart and imported to PrestaShop.
I was worried that the redesign would hurt the business, but fortunately, I was wrong. Here are some interesting numbers 1 month after going live with the new store compared to the previous period. The data shows only organic traffic segment.
Note: the client launched a new collection after launching a new store which usually brings more visitors than usual.
